| Brief history of Phoenix |
| 01.05.05 (5:06 am) [edit] |
Phoenix was developed as a farmland by the Hohokam Native who visited here in 300 AD. They built waterways to irrigate their fields which spanned for 135 miles. There is no proof as to how the native people who first settled here vanished. It could be because of long draught in this area.
Jack Swilling of Wickenburg in 1967, a farmer found the land to be very suitable for farming. He then formed a irrigation canal company and started digging canals. When water started flowing through the region, people started coming and settling in the place.
Ulysses S. Grant issued a patent for the site of Phoenix in 1874 and the city was established in Feb. 15 1881. Till 1930 Phoenix was mainly used for farming. It was from 1930 that tourists started coming here due to its warm climate and healthy environment. The population of the place started groing quickly and not Phoenix is 7th largest city in America Today.
